Walter Fleetwood Johnson, 83, of Eagle Rock, passed away on Thursday, November 22, 2012. First Sergeant Johnson was a Korean Conflict Army Veteran, he was awarded the Purple Heart, and retired in 1968 after serving 20 years, then served 20 years with the United States Capitol Police, retiring as a Sergeant in 1989. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frankie Marlene Thomas Johnson; and his parents, Edward Woodruff and Hilda Ruth Zell Johnson. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Stephen E. and Roxanna R. Johnson, of Benicia, Calif.; daughter and son-in-law, Gale and William D. Olstad, of Panama City, Fla.; sisters and brothers- in-law, Shirley J. Christler, of Savannah, Ga., Martha Fay and Cleon Hall, of Salem, Vernon Wilbourne Jr., of Salem, and Houston (Sonny) and Janie Thomas, of Troutville; sisters-in-law, Mildred H. Johnson, of Eagle Rock, Nellie Holland, of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Doris Heck, of Eagle Rock; grandchildren, Kyle Olstad, Zachary Johnson, Weston Johnson, and Samantha Johnson; numerous nieces and nephews; and his loyal companion, Muffy Johnson. Funeral Services will be held at noon on Monday, November 26, 2012, in the Eagle Rock Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home (540-884-2276) with the Rev. Marina Gopadze officiating. Interment will take place in Quantico National Cemetery beside his wife, Frankie, at a later date. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, 14777 Church Street, Eagle Rock, Va., on Sunday, November 25, 2012, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
