Shelby Jean McCulloch Shorter, 74, of Buchanan, went to be with Her Lord peacefully on October 27, 2012 following her courageous battle with multiple health challenges for the past 10 years. Shelby was born in Buchanan September 5, 1938, and was the daughter of the late Larry Frank (Bill) McCulloch and Vera McCulloch Robinson. Shelby was also preceded in death by her sister, Wanda McCulloch Shiben and step-father, O. R. Robinson. Shelby is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 57 years, Sammy Grey Shorter, of Buchanan; her three devoted and loving children, Melody Ann Shorter and Larry Grey Shorter of Buchanan and Leslie Shorter Angell and son-in-law, Donnie Angell of Roanoke, parents of Shelby's beloved grandson, Daniel Jason Angell and his fiancé Lindsey Millsaps (Sweetie). Shelby is also survived by her two loving sisters, Joanne McCulloch of Glen Allen, VA and Linda McCulloch and partner, Joanie Parks of Waretown, NJ and special friend, Fred Caldwell of Appomattox, VA, father of her nephew, Madison Scott Caldwell of Chambersburg, PA. She was a faithful member of the Buchanan Baptist Church and an active member of the Red Hat Society. The family will receive friends Sunday, October 28, 2012 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Buchanan Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home. The funeral will be held Monday, October 29, 2012, at 1:00 PM at the Buchanan Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Woody officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
