Ronald Worthington

Ronald "Ron" Hilton Worthington, 73, of Buchanan, passed away Friday, May 30, 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Hilton Worthington and Bobbie Plyler.

Ron grew up in Whiteville and Asheville, North Carolina. In early 1972, he moved to Elkin, North Carolina to be with his girlfriend. Ron and Lee then married in December 1972. He worked at Chatham Manufacturing for 25 years. He was an active member of the Elkin Presbyterian Church. He was a deacon and enjoyed preparing the communion for 21 years. He also enjoyed horseback riding with his wife on his horse, Sunny.

In 1997, Ron and his family moved to Buchanan, Virginia. He worked at the Roanoke airport as a TSA agent where he made many friends. As a pastime, he really loved working on his farm with his wife. They grew delicious tomatoes and had a few chickens. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing golf with family and friends. However, taking his grandchildren on tractor rides was his absolute favorite activity.

Ron is survived by his wife of 52 1/2 years, Dorris "Lee" Worthington; daughter, Dana Bowman and husband, Micah; grandchildren, Abigail Bowman and James Bowman; brother, Tim Worthington and wife, Karen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
