Kenneth Rhodes

Kenneth E. Rhodes lived a life filled with laughter, love and simple joys that made every day meaningful. On June 3, 2025, at the age of 88, he went to be with the Lord, but his spirit remains woven into the lives of those he loved most.

(Kenny, K.R., Daddy, PawPaw) leaves behind a family who loved him beyond measure. He is survived by his three daughters, Sandra Jessee (Jerry), Donna Cox (Mike), and Christy Barry, each of whom carries his love and legacy forward. His four grandchildren, Matthew Cox (Lauren), Erin Nowak (Dawid), Emma Pelchat (Michael), and Ripley Barry were the apple of his eye. He also had five great-grandchildren (#6 on the way) Brody and Berkley Cox, Eamon and Della Nowak, and Addy Pelchat that brought a smile to his face quicker than nearly anything else. He also had many numerous special cousins. His old school wisdom, humor, and kindness will be with everyone like a favorite story, bringing smiles, guidance, and the occasional reminder not to take life too seriously.

Beyond his family, K.R. had a love for golf. The game was more than a sport-it was a way to spend time with his friends and family but to also chase that elusive perfect shot. His golf buddies called him "Phenom" because he consistently shot below his age! But even if there was a bad round, he could always count on coming home and listening to some Jimmy Buffett music to carry him to his happy place. The melodies of Margaritaville and Bama Breeze were the soundtrack to many peaceful afternoons, a reminder to embrace life's moments with a carefree heart.

The family would like to extend our sincerest thanks to a few special caregivers that helped make this transition a little easier on us. To Megan, Logan, and Dr. Stewart with Carilion Hospice; we are eternally grateful that you always listened to us and our concerns as well as the care and dignity you afforded dad until the end. To Sissy Austin, there really are not enough words of thanks for your kindness, caring, and love you showed to us, and to dad as you helped care for him these past two weeks. We are forever in your debt.

Though we are saddened by our loss, we know that he is having a glorious reunion with his wife Rita, his mom and dad, along with many special friends who have gone before him. Many of his old softball family, we are sure, were waiting with open arms to welcome him home. Dad's legacy lives on in the lessons he taught, the memories he created, and the love he shared. Because he really never liked things too serious, he decided a while ago that when it was time, he wanted a party in true Jimmy Buffet style. We will be holding a memorial gathering/cookout/party at the Barn at Back Creek Farm on July 5th at 2pm.

Rest easy, Daddy/PawPaw/K.R. We know you are enjoying that perfect round of golf, a cheeseburger in paradise, some good tunes and your sweetheart by your side.
