George C. Haymaker, Jr.

George Cummings Haymaker, Jr., age 80, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2025. He will be interred at Springwood Baptist Church Cemetery, 88 Copps Hill Road Buchanan VA 24066, on September 6, 2025, at 11 o’clock am.

George was born April 14, 1945, in Springwood VA. He dedicated his life to service, both to his country and his community. He proudly served in the United States Army, with tours in Germany and Vietnam, demonstrating courage and commitment in times of great challenge. Following his military service, George built a distinguished 40-year career with Norfolk Southern Railway Company, where he held various management positions and earned the respect of colleagues through his steady leadership and strong work ethic. In retirement, George embraced the simple joys that brought him happiness—spending time outdoors fishing, hunting, and golfing with cherished friends. These passions painted his golden years with laughter, companionship, and peace. He will be fondly remembered for his integrity, quiet strength, and the loyalty he showed to those he loved.

George's predecessors were his father, George Cummings Haymaker, Sr. his mother, Phyllis Sink Haymaker, and nephew, David Haymaker. Surviving family members include his wife of 38 years, Betty Judd Haymaker, Salem VA and Augusta GA. His brother Don Haymaker (JoLynn) Moneta VA, his sisters Jackie Key (Wendell) Charlotte NC, and Mary Patsel, Buchanan VA. His children, Mark Haymaker, Falls Church VA, Heather Haas (Mike) Franklin WI, Cheryl Johnson and fiancé Jose Nuques, Augusta GA, Todd Dooley Oliver Springs TN. Grandchildren, Sarah Gilliam-Carson (Tyler) Eldersburg MD, Damon Haas Franklin WI, Alexa Dooley Morristown TN, and Jacob Dooley of Oliver Springs TN. Great Grandson Carson Ledford of Morristown TN.
