Alma Simmons Camper, 90, of Fincastle, passed away Sunday, August 26, 2012. Born August 7, 1922, Alma was the daughter of the late Rufus Owen Simmons and Hallie Simmons. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, William Fred Camper and brother, Harry Simmons. She is survived by a daughter, Carol Camper DiDonna and fiance', Richard Compton of Roanoke; son, Kenneth Fred Camper of Fincastle; and neighbor she thought of as a daughter, Joan Shephard; grandsons, Chris Kruger and wife, Heidi of Burleson, TX; and Troy Allen Camper of Elgin, SC; granddaughter, Aimee Osborne and husband, Scott of Roanoke; and four great-grandsons, Trent Kruger and Trevor, Dylan, and Jarod Osborne all of Roanoke. Alma took great pleasure in spending time with her family, having spent most of her life as a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, and always lovingly tended her flowers. She was an active member of Mill Creek Baptist Church until recent years due to her health. Since then she has taken particular pleasure in Sunday visits with church members who brought her sermons on CDs. Visitation will held from 2-4 and 6-8pm on Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at the Buchanan Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held 2pm Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at Mill Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Randy Daniels officiating. Interment will follow in Mill Creek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Mill Creek Baptist Church Building Fund.
